The following instructions are very important. They should be read through carefully. The following is a sketch to help aid in the understanding of these instructions. If you need further help you may contact your distributor or e-mail us at AWSFA .

Step 1. Preparing to install the AWSFA.
Before you dig, contact your local utilities to check the area for buried water lines, gas lines, telephone lines, sewer systems, etc. Once the area is secured, dig down 18" below the local frost level, a long enough ditch for the water line to bend down and hook up to the bottom of the AWSFA. (see sketch)
Special Tip - The bottom of the AWSFA needs to be installed 18" below the frost line to ensure proper operation during the winter months.
Warning - Digging around corner post and other foundational structures may cause caving and structural collapse.

Step 2. Hooking up the water line.
Warning - Before tapping into an existing water line turn the water supply off at the pump or a shut off valve. Keep in mind if you shut it off at the pump the pressure tank will continue to supply water until it is empty. This extra water can be taken care of by opening a spigot at the lowest elevation possible.
Special Tip - Be careful to keep dirt and debris out of the AWSFA fitting and water line. Flush the water line after all cuts have been made prior to water line hook-up
The hook-up on the bottom of the AWSFA is equipped with a 3/4" female pipe fitting. You will need to purchase a fitting with a 3/4" male pipe thread on one side and a configuration on the other side as to hook up your existing line.
After the line is secured to the AWSFA turn the water back on, and check for any leaking, and fix accordingly.
Step 3. Backfilling with Gravel.
The AWSFA needs to be set on a broken cinder block, or by other mean, or method as to keep the bottom off the floor of the trench by a couple of inches. Then backfill the deeper part of the trench with a couple of yards of crushed gravel, keeping the AWSFA upright and level for proper drainage. If you have a soil with a lot of clay, more gravel may be necessary for proper drainage.
After backfilling with the proper amount of gravel, a barrier such as plastic, straw, or tar paper needs to be laid over the top so the dirt backfill will not filter down through the gravel and plug the drainage.   Packing the dirt as you backfill will minimize the need to fill more dirt in later do to settling.
Step 4. Testing the System.
Operate the system by pushing on the Water Release Valve. The Bowl should fill up with water to the point the animal will be able to drink in about 5 seconds. After the valve is released it will drain in approximately 5 seconds.
Operate the frost free by pulling up on the Frost Free Control. Plenty of water should be available and drain in reasonable time when it is turned off. If any test show problems, email us at custservice@agsint.com, and describe what you are looking at and explain what was done.
Step 5. Training livestock.    Once the system is installed properly your livestock will smell the water and will easily train once the Water Release Valve is operated by hand a few times.
However, an existing water tank may need to be drained as to brake an animals old habit and to teach it something new.
